Toolboxes are centered on an agreed upon set of competencies in a specific vocational discipline. Typically a Toolbox will employ a virtual environment that is easily identifiable and relevant to the student. Through this environment the student has access to a set of realistic tasks, scenarios, case studies and assessment activities. These may be presented on screen, printed out or accessed through links to other web sites. Toolboxes use techniques such as email and chat sessions to facilitate collaborative learning and online contact with tutors and mentors.
