Is Online Learning Australia just an Australian company, or does it operate at a global level as well?
Online Learning Australia is an Australian-owned company that provides learning services around the world. We have clients in Australia and we also provide custom content services and off-the-shelf products to clients in the USA, Europe and Asia Pacific.
What is the difference between “custom”, “customised” and “off-the-shelf” courseware?
Custom-built content is 100% unique and specific to your organisation.
Customised content enables clients to take advantage of ready-built courses. We can help you to tailor the course by adding your own logo, colours and some of your own content.
Off-the-shelf courses are ready to install without alterations.
Which of these does Online Learning Australia provide?
Online Learning Australia provides all of these solutions and more!
What is “blended learning”?
Blended learning combines two or more learning media to drive learning outcomes. Here are a couple of examples of blended learning:
- An e-learning course on a sales approach followed by an instructor-led workshop to practise the skills
- An instructor-led training course on leadership skills followed by a series of self-paced workplace activities to be reviewed by the learner’s manager.
Our Learning Consultants work with your organisation to design blended learning solutions that fit your needs.
Can Online Learning Australia provide paper-based,
instructor-led materials?
Yes, our paper-based, instructor-led materials include visuals and interactions to engage learners and reinforce the instruction.
Can Online Learning Australia convert paper-based courses to online courses?
Yes, we can convert paper-based courses to online courses and vice versa.
Can my eLearning be deployed on iPads/iPhones and other mobile devices?
Yes, ask us how.
How would Online Learning Australia work with my team to create a customised e-Learning course for my company?
Online Learning Australia is happy to start from scratch by conducting a training needs analysis to identify your learning requirements, and to propose and develop solutions. We are also happy to work with any specifications and content documents that you have developed.
Throughout an e-learning project, our team, which includes a project manager, instructional designers, multimedia developers and a system architect, will work closely with your team, providing multiple opportunities for your input before the final courseware is ready.
How can I be sure that learners will achieve the objectives of the course?
At Online Learning Australia learning is at the centre of everything we do. Our instructional designers create courses that make it easy for your staff to learn the required knowledge and skills.
Course assessments are targeted to the learning objectives and results can be tracked through your Learning Management System.
Our solutions not only help learners achieve the course objectives, they are designed to help your staff apply their new knowledge in the workplace.
Won’t it cost a lot to produce a custom-built learning experience?
Not necessarily. Our clients say that we provide quality and value for the price. Some courses cost more than others and we work to your budget. Many courses recoup their return on investment in a matter of months.
Why is it important to have meaningful learning interactivity for adult learners?
No matter what the medium is, effective learning experiences must keep learners actively thinking. Learners must grasp new information, procedures and principles to build their understanding of the content. Meaningful interactivity ensures that the activities are closely aligned to the way in which the new information, procedures and principles will be applied in the workplace. This enables learners to transfer what they have learned online to their work.
What type of learners do you usually design courses for?
Our courses are mainly designed for adult learners in a business environment, but we have successfully created courseware for many other audiences.
Can you create courses that adhere to accessibility requirements?
Yes, this is a specialty area for Online Learning Australia. We have created numerous courses that adhere to the W3C Guidelines and to the US 508 Compliance Standards.
Why is the use of multimedia in a course different from multimedia in a website home page?
When multimedia is used inappropriately in courses, it can create distractions rather than results. Our instructional design team ensures that clients achieve successful course completions and outcomes.
What is an LMS?
A Learning Management System (LMS) hosts the content and enables clients to track learner results, generate reports and develop training plans.
Do I need an LMS?
Not everyone needs an LMS. Depending on their reporting and tracking requirements for learners, many clients choose to install an LMS.
Can your content integrate with an LMS?
Our content is SCORM-compliant to ensure our courseware integrates well with LMS. We have integrated with many LMS providers and can provide support and independent advice in LMS selection.
Can an LMS integrate with an HRIS and/or payroll system?
Many LMS systems integrate with HRIS and payroll systems.
Why is an LMS good for managers?
An LMS provides managers with confirmation of course completion and tools to plan and develop staff training.
Does Online Learning Australia sell LMS?
Online Learning Australia has an LMS solution that offers a range of vital functionality required for managing learning content. We also provide independent advice on the different LMS available in the market. We are qualified to do this because we have integrated our courseware with many market leaders and are informed about our clients’ issues and their assessment of these systems.
Does Online Learning Australia provide courses with assessments and tracking and how does this help?
Yes, all Online Learning Australia courses track users' progress and feed this information back to the LMS. You can choose whether your course requires assessment and what the pass score for that assessment will be. You can also decide how many attempts the learner is permitted to have before they fail the course.
Tracking enables managers to know how far their team members have progressed through the training. It also enables learners to stop and start the training in their own time, and resume the course where they left off. Assessments determine whether the learner has successfully completed the course.
What is the difference between assessments in content and assessments sent to an LMS?
Assessments sent to an LMS are usually formal, scored assessments. There are often assessments or quizzes in courseware, which simply test knowledge. The results from these non-scored quizzes are not fed back to the LMS.
What about problems with response times for low bandwidth networks?
Bandwidth is an important issue to consider when delivering course content across a network. Our courses are designed around the technical specification of a client’s common desktop environment and system configuration to ensure that courses run effectively and deliver the learning outcomes required.
What if I need both online and instructor-led courses?
Online Learning Australia is a specialist in developing both paper-based and online courses. We create both of these deliverables for projects requiring a blended learning solution.
Does Online Learning Australia create systems simulations?
Yes, Online Learning Australia has vast experience in delivering systems simulations in both the national and international markets.
What is the role of the Project Manager?
The role of the Project Manager is to create a strong relationship with our clients, and to ensure that projects are delivered on time and on budget.
What are SMEs and what do they do?
A subject matter expert (SME) usually comes from the client organisation and provides expertise on the content of the online course or other deliverables.
What about maintenance after the course has been built?
Maintenance is an important part of the ongoing upkeep of the course. Clients can maintain courses themselves without engaging Online Learning Australia or we can perform any maintenance required.
Can I edit the content?
Our clients can make text edits to custom content, but they usually engage us to edit more complex parts of the courseware. Because our maintenance and editing is cost-effective, most clients prefer us to provide this service.
What are the standards for course content and LMS, and why are standards important when developing a course?
SCORM and AICC are the major standards for course content. SCORM is the most practised standard.
Standards such as SCORM and AICC are important because they help to ensure that courses can be integrated successfully with the LMS and communicate student results. They are the common ground on which the course and LMS meet to work together successfully. Standards make compliant courses portable from one compliant LMS to another.
Are your courses SCORM and AICC compliant?
Yes.
Why can’t I build this content myself with Macromedia Breeze or other tools?
Online Learning Australia brings specialist instructional design skills and educational focus to build content that is engaging and motivating. Many of our clients build their own content for less complex courses. However, if the course has strategic value (product releases, orientation to attract new staff) or legal implications (compliance with OH&S or EEO/Diversity) clients ask Online Learning Australia to bring their instructional design, educational and multimedia expertise to the project.
Can my eLearning be deployed on iPads/iPhones and other mobile devices?
Yes, ask us how.
Why is Online Learning Australia the best choice?
Ask our clients! Our references are probably the best way to discover why we claim to provide a unique and specialised experience for our learners. We are happy to put you in touch with our clients who can share their stories and experiences.
